Travel Hassles

Last class, we watched a snippet of The Terminal, in which Viktor Navorski (Tom Hanks), a man from an Eastern European country, suffers all kinds of travel hassles when arriving in New York. After he left his country; war broke out and because of that Navorski is a man without a country that the U.S. cannot recognize, thus he is denied entrance to the U.S. However, he also can't be deported so he is told by the Security Manager that he has to remain in the airport until his status can be fixed. And also Navorski doesn't speak English well, so no one can talk to him and he can't talk to anyone.

What about you? What hassles have you faced when travelling?

It's me! No, not Mario :P

Hi, guys! o/

Ok, ok, I'll do my homework, teacher!

I'm Carlos Eduardo, but here is just Charles, alright? :)
I'm 17 years old and I study at São Bento. It's so hard to study there, you know? But you get used to it. I expect to graduate in there, but I haven't chosen a career to follow yet. Nothing related to Maths! I hate it. Probably something related to design, computers or History.

My favorite hobby is surfing in the internet. I like to play games, chat with my friends and watch videos. Also, I like to go to the movies. It's something that really interests me! And if I had to choose my favorite movie, it would be Star Wars, definitely! Besides that, one thing that I really like to do is draw. I think it's something that I was born with... Oh yeah, I "almost" (hehe) forgot: because of that thing that I have with drawing, one of my hobbies is reading some comic books, mangás (japanese comics) and watching some cartoons and animês (japanese cartoons) too. Yes, I really love Japan :)

Finally, my expectation for this semester is to learn how to speak and write better. One of my goals in life is to write a book, so I think that it will be of great help. I also hope to travel abroad and use this English that I learned, despite my dream is to travel to Japan (Hahaha XD)

See ya,
Charles :)

Hi!! Let's get it on!

Hi! We are: Johnny and Felipe! We have been studing at IBEU together since 2005!

We are a little late to the class, we have to hurry up!

Bye!

Hi

Hello everybody! My name is João Bentes. I am a 16 years old boy who studies at Escola Parque. I'm learnig how to play the guitar, but I already have a band called "Ballét Mecânico" (I now the name is lame...) where i am the leadsinger. I'm not going to sing anything for you people, i am very shy, so go to my band shows instead of asking me. My favorite bands are The Who, The Strokes and Vampire Weekend. I also love to paint and draw. At school i am good at math, and as i love video-games i want to work as computer engineer, or something like that. Ok, i think thats already enough. byebye.

This is me!

Since no one has posted their profile here :(, I'll do my homework and introduce myself to our readers.

My name is Fabiana, I'm a 27-year-old English teacher at IBEU Jardim Botânico and PhD student at PUC-Rio. My main interests are teaching and learning languages, traveling and getting to know new cultures. I also love music, specially jazz and blues. Playing the piano is one of my biggest passions, although I still have a lot to learn, lol!

One of my favorite books is Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury. I read it for the first time when I was fifteen, to write a book report for the English class. At first I hated doing it, but it finally turned out to be a very meaningful experience for me! That's why we should always give reading a second chance, no matter what it is... Chances are that we're going to be surprised. :) Wanna know more about the book? I would be pleased to lend you, and we also have it in our library.

Finally, my main goal concerning English is to improve my and also my students' general understanding of what it takes to speak a foreign language fluently and accurately. At the moment, I believe the more you live the language (by reading, listening, using it to communicate to whom you love), the better you learn.

What about you, guys and girls? I'm anxious to read your profiles!

Cheers,

Teacher Fabi
